Double Digits

Last week, Mr. Man turned 10. 10! I think he will make a very good 10 year old.
He already has the video thing down. Including a must-needed-gotta-try-the-brand-new-game-before-bed session.

He celebrated turning 10 by playing lacrosse - his new found love. Who knew? This quiet, gentle boy loves lacrosse. His grandparents, aunt and cousin came out to cheer him on. It must have worked - his team tied the game - the first non-loss of the season. Go #12!

Fast forward a few days and one long list later to the ninja invasion.

Seriously. I wasn't joking. Ninjas. Five of them. Ready for some serious ninja training.

Foam swords=hours of fun. Hours.

In the land of ninjas, innocent balloons turn into water snakes.

That need to be taken out with ninja stars.

And when the snakes are all gone. There is always another threat that comes along.

And when swords just won't do -  more weapons.

Tired ninjas taking a rest. On the roof of course.

Cake to eat.

Sushi to go.

Birthday Party - Angry Birds Style

Today Mr. Man turns nine. Nine! On the weekend he celebrated with his friends - Angry Birds style. Using PicMonkey we turned the above picture into party invitations.  (I was about to share it here when I realized that once I blocked out all the personal information, it well, didn't look so hot. So just imagine fun colourful words in red and green inviting you to a fun Angry Birds birthday party. And oh, the pigs were wearing birthday party hats.)

Before the boys arrived we set up the Angry Birds bean bags that I'd been working on earlier in the week.
And the pigs of course. Because the birds wouldn't be angry if it weren't for the pigs.

Using boxes from the grocery store, the boys built a real-life game board. Placed the pigs. And then hurled the Angry Birds bean bags at the pigs and boxes.
Again and again and again.

Next it was on to throwing birds in the air and then water balloons at each other.

Followed by a pinata.

And cake. Simple, easy and of course angry.

I think, maybe, just maybe he had a good time!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Man! You are loved.

Sneaky Peakies

Yesterday we celebrated Sneaker's first birthday. I can't believe that this eight pounds of furry fury is a year old. He is much loved.

Party hats and treats filled his day.

Happy Birthday little Sneakers!

Pinterest, Art and an Eleven Year-Old

Well, as many of you know, Little Miss recently celebrated her 11th birthday. We had fun planning it together using Pinterest. We created a board just for her. Great ideas, all in one place. Art. Colour. Fun.

It turned out well, don't you think? The streamer idea came from here. It was easy to do.

Streamers and an embroidery hoop. That's it.

Yarn balloons inspired by this. Chalkboard bunting found here.

Loved this idea. But it was too much work and besides, I didn't have any plastic cups. So instead we wrapped lights in bits of streamers.
We made giant versions of these for the loot bags to hold all the goodies.

Little Miss sewed them all by herself.  I'm so proud of her!

Frames all ready to be decorated. The black part of the frames is chalkboard paint so the girls can continue the doodling fun at home.

The photo booth with props waiting to be used.
Decorating the frames with stamps, markers and stickers.

I love how they turned out! All so pretty. All so different.

Fun in the photo booth.

I think it's safe to say that everyone had a good time!

And last, but not least, the cake. I love all the rainbow layer cakes that you see, but to be honest, I didn't feel like assembling one, nor do I have 7 cake pans. But then I saw this. I can put all 7 colours into one pan. Right after the art party, the granparents, aunts and uncles came. Two cakes. One round and one made in a bundt pan because, well, I was out of bundt pans. I love how the bundt version turned out! I like it even better than the round version. It looks like a rainbow!

It was easy to do. Make the cake batter. Any white cake recipe will work.  Divide the batter it into 7 small bowls. Add food colouring, one colour per bowl. Make sure you use the gel kind to get vibrant colours. The liquid colouring won't work. Carefully pour the batter into a bundt pan one colour at a time. Bake as usual. When you cut the cake, there will be a rainbow waiting inside. How fun is that?
